Less Than Twenty Four Hours

In a little under twenty two hours the Space Station Discovery STS-121 will blast off from pad 39B heading to the International Space Station.

All my life I have wanted to watch the space shuttle take off and defeat earths gravity. In many ways the Space Shuttle program has been around my entire life, from when the shuttle's inception in the early seventies to the first shuttle launch On April 12, 1981 when I was nine.

I watched in horror in January 1986 when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded after takeoff and I watch again ith horror when the Space Shuttle Columbia came apart on re-entry.

NO matter the cost of the Space Shuttle program, the benefits both real and intrinsic far outweigh the cost. Mankind has always desired to "discover" and learn new things, both about themselves and the world in which we live in.

In twentyone hours I will be watching the launch and keeping my fingers crossed for a safe return of the crew of STS-121.
