Habeas Corpus is taken away in the United States

Habeas Corpus is taken away in the United States

Yesterday the basic tenet of the American Legal system was removed. Habeas Corpus -A civil proceeding used to review the legality of a prisoner's confinement in criminal cases.

So that means that without charge, or without legal representation the American Government can keep someone in jail secluded and away form the basic right of a trial, lawyer or other.

And I thought Australia's terrorism laws were bad!

PLEASE! I am an American attorney and can tell you Olberman is way off base. The right to habeas corpus has NEVER been extended to enemy combatants or POW's during war time. Congress accepted the Supreme Court's invitation to authorize such tribunals and procedures, and it did so.

Anyone legally inside the US has full protection of the US Constitution, but the bill here is aimed at those captured overseas who are not citizens and not being held in the US. I dare you to name me any other country that affords nearly as much comfort and rights (including the right to an attorney) to those accused of overthrowing it.

That's what I thought. The US, aided by Australia and Britain, are carrying on a serious effort to protect Western civilization, including the rights of gays to live as they please. Somewhere along the line gays have overlooked the fact that the Islamofascists want to castrate us and kill us all.

You may not like Dubya or the US policy, but it's what's protecting YOU.

Well I suppose this is where we like to disagree,

first laws that are put in place for one thing are interpretted for other things. I don't really believe that Bush would hesitate to use whatever he could to further his agenda.

On the issue of the war against ISLAM, I am sorry, but the war in Iraq had nothing to do witb the war against terrorism.

Saddam Hussein never had weapons of mass destruction, he was also not responsible for the 911 attacks.

And no the rights of gays are not being protected by the neo cons who are in power, they are being diminished.

And finally Tom, why is it that your blog is not there, can we read your thoughts? Can we read your reasoning why you support a war based on no actual real evidence?

I support totally the troops, and will continue to do so, but I cannot support an administration taht takes away civil liberties in teh name of making us free. It does not make sense!
