Hi Drew,
Yes, horsetail it is and a very aggressive plant if you put it in the ground instead of pots. It likes LOTS of water and grows in boggy areas as well as in ponds and the like. It's jointed w/ those brown rings defining the joints and it's also very coarse with silica in the structure. Colonists would bundle stalks of it to use for scrubbing cast iron pans becaue of its durability and silica content. Because designers like its architectural look, it has become popular and can be found freeze dried w/ the color preserved better than you can accomplish yourself if you want to decorate with it. Mass plantings look great but it'll take over the entire place.
