The Ongoing Saga of Free Hosts and Gay Sites
I've been following with great interest the free web hosting services that are removing any web sites with gay content on them. One of the main offenders is Tripod which has removed almost all of the gay writers websites in the past two weeks. The removal of gay and lesbian content websites is being based on the premise of "Adult Content" in their Terms and Conditions. The use of this subjective term is very concerning as it is in effect squashing free speech and brings into question the entire objectivity of the Internet. Legally the removal of the websites is questionable as a good lawyer could argue that Adult Content does or does not include information pertaining to Gay and Lesbian activities. However the removal with no warning or feedback to the site holders is very bad business practice and substantiates the myths and stereotypes of Gays and Lesbians.
The only way to fight this very seriopus attack on freedom of speech and freedom of choice (not that being Gay or Lesbian is a choice) is to withdraw your support for the companies that adevrtise on these channels. I will post a list of the advertisers as soon as I can and I urge you all to join me in writing to them and requesting that they cease advertising with an organisation that is flaunting the freedom of speech.
