Tennessee Boy Forced into Anti Gay Program

Zach a 16 year old boy has been forced into an anti gay program by his parents for telling them he is Gay. Zach detailed his plight in his online Journal on May thirtieth and (link) last updated on June 3rd. The diary and his plight has caused an international media spotlight on the organisation – Love in Action, forcing them to hold a Press conference on Thursday June 16th to discuss the issue.
The program believes that Homosexuality is an attraction and associated behavior that can be changed by therapy. This belief was struck down by the American Psychiatric Association in the 70’s, but is still purported as fact by the many ex-gay ministries. The most famous ex-gay John Paulk, Exodus International’s poster boy was discovered in a Gay Bar picking up another man, he subsequently debunked the entire ex-gay ministry as flawed.
Zach posted the rules of the religious fundamentalist camp on his diary and they include:
- Not wearing Abercrombie and Fitch or Calvin Klein clothing;
- No hugging or physical touch between clients
- clients may only read materials approved by staff
- No television viewing, going to movies, or reading/watching/listening to secular media of any kind
This organization also promotes suicide, as shown here by a quote by the director of "Love In Action", Rev. John Smid:
"I would rather you commit suicide than have you leave Love In Action wanting to return to the gay lifestyle. In a physical death you could still have a spiritual resurrection; whereas, returning to homosexuality you are yielding yourself to a spiritual death from which there is no recovery."
